N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine, a precursor of the antioxidant glutathione, promotes lung health and may assist in improving general well-being in people with mild functional lung problems (Respir Med 1994 Aug;88(7):531-5). Vitamins C and E, carotene, riboflavin, and selenium are an antioxidant team that assists the regeneration of reduced glutathione, and exerts other antioxidant effects. Antioxidant protection against oxidative stress is critical for pulmonary health (Pharmacol Res 1999 Nov; 40(5):393-404). Horehound and licorice extracts, and thyme oil, are traditional pectorals - lung tonics - and expectorants (Culpeper’s Herbal).
