Product Description

Beta Carotene is probably the best known of the carotenoids, those red, orange, and yellow pigments that give color to many fruits and vegetables. The body converts Beta Carotene into Vitamin A. Taken as a supplement, this powerful antioxidant counters the effects of free radicals and may help to protect against and treat certain cancers. It may even help to strengthen the immune system, prevent heart disease and night blindness. Scientists are also exploring its potential for treating chronic fatigue syndrome, Alzheimer’s disease, Fibromyalgia, male infertility, and psoriasis.

Many adverse health conditions can appear when there is a deficiency of Beta Carotene. Eye problems, changes in mucous membranes, weak tooth enamel, diarrhea, and slow growth are all possibilities with a beta carotene deficiency. Low Beta Carotene levels are also often associated with the development of lupus. Taking this supplement may help ease some of the arthritic problems associated with lupus.

Of special concern with deficiency is the degeneration of the eye. Beta Carotene is essential for normal function of retina. It combines with red pigment of retina to form rhodopsin, which is necessary for sight in partial darkness. A lack of Beta Carotene can also lead to night blindness, cataracts and total blindness if left unchecked.

A diet high in Beta Carotene may protect a person against cancer, especially cancers of the mouth, larynx esophagus, breast, cervix, bladder and lungs. Vitamin A and Beta Carotene apparently protect against cancer by their inhibition of both the initiation and promotion stages. Beta Carotene also might aid in the prevention of cancer by: inhibiting the growth of abnormal cells, strengthening the immune response so cancer cells are less likely to grow, fortifying cell membranes so they are less vulnerable to attack or damage and altering cell production so abnormal cells are less likely to develop. Vitamin A also aids in the prevention of tissue damage caused by radiation
